Saving Small Dogs

By Sherry Petta and Shelley Boni-Rice

The Arizona Small Dog Rescue (AZSDR) has been saving the lives of dogs (of all sizes) for the last nine years.  The majority of dogs rescued by AZSDR are from the County animal shelter where hundreds of dogs are scheduled to be euthanized daily, but they also take in found stray dogs as room permits and have a tremendous lost & found team who strives to reunite lost pets with their owners.  If no owners surface, those dogs, along with all other rescues at the shelter, are vet checked, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered before being adopted.  AZSDR is known for coming to the rescue of dogs who may have been hit by a car or found thrown in a dumpster, or whose owners never took care of getting a tumor removed – whatever the medical needs are, AZSDR provides the necessary vet care for dogs who go through their shelter – dogs who deserve a chance at a normal, safe, and love-filled life that they may never have had before.
This type of unconditional care happens year round at AZSDR and offers a chance for you to help a good cause this holiday season.  The shelter is always in need of soft blankets and beds for the dogs, sweaters for them to wear in the winter, as well as collars year round, but donations are also appreciated towards the vet bills.  So far this year, AZSDR has rescued just under 3,000 dogs.
The Arizona Small Dog Rescue has adoption events every weekend near you!  Please check the Arizona Small Dog Rescue page on facebook for locations and times.

The AZSDR shelter located at 1102 W. Hatcher, Phoenix 85021 has just finished a much-needed renovation and is open 11am-6pm daily (phone 602- 944-2440).  You may visit www.azsmalldog.org or the facebook page to view available dogs and special event information.  AZSDR is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and no-kill rescue shelter.  All donations are tax deductible.
