Jim Waring Elected City Council Vice Mayor

JIM WARING ELECTED CITY COUNCIL VICE MAYOR

During this afternoon’s Formal Council Meeting, the Phoenix City Council   elected District 2 Councilman Jim Waring as vice mayor. He will serve in the   position until the beginning of 2015.     “I’m honored to serve as vice mayor of the city of Phoenix this   year,” stated Waring. “I will continue to work hard to ensure   residents’ needs are being met, while closely watching over how the City   spends taxpayer dollars. This is an important year for the City of Phoenix,   as there are many tough decisions that need to be made. I am committed to   making those decisions, and being an advocate for the taxpayer.”     “I have known my good friend, Councilman Jim Waring, for many   years,” said Councilman Bill Gates, outgoing vice mayor. “Jim has   focused on fiscal oversight of city spending, pension reform, and saving   taxpayer dollars – I look forward to working with him this year as vice   mayor.”     Waring was sworn in as the District 2 Phoenix City Councilman on Sept. 7,   2011. During his tenure on the Council, Waring has cemented his reputation,   earned during seven years at the state Senate, as a tireless fighter against   wasteful government spending, a champion of job-creating policies and a   proponent of tough-on-crime public safety policies. He serves on the Finance,   Efficiency, Economy and Sustainability and Parks, Arts, Transparency and   Education subcommittees, and is the chair of the city’s Human Trafficking   Task Force.     He was named a “Champion of the Taxpayer” by the Arizona Federation   of Taxpayers; “Guardian of Small Business” by the National   Federation of Independent Business; “Legislator of the Year,”   twice, by The Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence, among other   honors.     Waring holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Arizona State University   and a bachelor degree from Northern Illinois University. He and his wife,   Kitty, are the proud parents of twin boys.
