Ladies and gentlemen,
Many of you have heard of some of the success that the off duty officer program for Desert Ridge has had. The primary focus when this program was created was Property Crimes, and specifically Residential Burglary, Thefts and Stolen Vehicles that occur in the Desert Ridge residential community. In order to track our progress I asked our Crime Analysis Unit to do a very specific analysis of the activity in our specific area of work pertaining to those crime issues. The following is a synopsis of that analysis. It will be updated hopefully every quarter but for sure every 6 months.
The program started on Dec 1, 2011 so that was the date that the comparisons were used for. Since we had stats available through June 30th, various comparison time periods were done for that time period from Dec 1 to June 30th.
In comparing Dec 1, 2008 to June 30th, 2009 to Dec 1, 2011 to June 30th 2012; Burglary was reduced 26%, no change in Auto Theft, Theft was reduced 42% and overall Property Crime was reduced 33%.
In comparing Dec 1, 2010 to June 30th 2011 to Dec 1, 2011 to June 30th, 2012; Burglary was reduced 23%, Auto Theft was reduced 28%, Theft was reduced 25% and overall Property Crime was reduced 25%.
I am pleased with our results. This is a result of our Community Education through adding Block Watches to the area, involved and watchful residents helping each other out and practicing crime prevention at home and the increased patrols. I would like our success to continue and we should not rest on our results but continue to be watchful and vigilant in practicing good crime prevention techniques. I hope that the trends will continue in the right direction although knowing that we will never eliminate all crime in an area we can do our best to try and accomplish that.
On behalf of all the officers, I wish to thank all the residents of Desert Ridge, the staff at Rossmar and Graham, and the HOA Board for their support. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions or comments.
Thank you,
Officer Tim Mitten # 5279
