Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale gears up to crown its 2017 Youth of the Year at the annual Celebrate Youth at Blue Door Ball gala
Lizzie Erickson, 2016-2017 Vestar Branch Youth of the Year will compete for the coveted title
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale is gearing up to crown its 2017 Youth of the Year at the annual Celebrate Youth at Blue Door Ball gala slated for Friday, February 24 at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa.
Eight young adults will be competing for the title of 2017 BGCS Youth of the Year, the highest honor given to a Club member. The gala, presented by Tiffany & Bosco and Great American Title Agency, Inc., features silent and live auctions, dinner and live entertainment, all while our teen finalists share their personal stories of triumph and transformation.
Representing the Vestar Branch will be Lizzie Erickson who was crowned the 2016-17 Vestar Branch Youth of the Year last fall. A 21st Century Leader, Lizzie will share her story along with the seven other Branch Youth of the Year contestants before a winner is announced at the end of the evening.
“The Club inspires me to act with compassion and to think critically about issues I encounter. I recognize that my passion for helping others is what makes me a valuable member of the next generation of leaders,” says Ms. Erickson.
Thousands of youth walk through our blue doors every day where programs prepare them to become 21st Century Leaders, Globally Competitive Graduates, Innovative Dream-Makers and Healthy Game-Changers.
Daniela Aceves will represent the Paiute Branch, Xavier Lopez will represent the Mary Ellen & Robert McKee Branch, Donna Persampire will represent the Virginia G. Piper Branch, Debanhi Reyes will represent the Hartley & Ruth Barker Branch, Kyla Silas will represent the Peach Springs Branch, Casey (Kat) Swann will represent the Lehi Branch and Tatum Trainer will represent the Thunderbirds Branch.
The newly crowned Youth of the Year will represent the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale throughout the year, receive a $5,000 scholarship made possible by Voya Financial® and will advance on to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Youth of the Year competition. Voya Financial® also awards $1,000 scholarships to the remaining seven Branch Youth of the Year winners.
