PVCC Today and Tomorrow

Where Education Meets Innovation

Summer is a great time to catch up or get ahead at Paradise Valley Community College, especially for students returning home from college, or getting ready to start. In just five weeks, they can complete one, or even two, college-transfer classes in biology, chemistry, communications, computer information systems, English, math, business, geology, psychology, Spanish, sociology, humanities, or music.
And they won’t be sacrificing summer fun because classes only meet Monday-Thursday, so every weekend is a long weekend.  There’s still time to enroll in the 5-week Express session that begins June 29.  Check out available classes at paradisevalley.edu. Shorter semester = more summer!

Meanwhile, Fall semester promises to be an exciting one, as the University of Arizona launches the UA North Valley bachelor degree completion program housed on the PVCC campus.  An associate degree plus 60 units of General Studies coursework, taken on the PVCC Union Hills campus and taught by UA faculty, will earn future Wildcats a multi-disciplinary UA Bachelor of General Studies.
UA joins Northern Arizona University in offering students the opportunity to complete their four-year degree on the PVCC campus.  The NAU Extended Campus offers 12 degrees, including Special & Elementary Education, Business Administration, Technology Management, and Nursing.

These “Start Here Stay Here” options offer convenience and significant cost savings.

Current and future small business owners will learn how to become “Shark Tank” ready in PVCC’s new Entrepreneurship Education Center, which begins offering classes this summer, with a full slate in the fall. Under the leadership of Dr. Kishore Dash, the Entrepreneurship certificate program has been created to help students learn core business fundamentals; how to start or grow a business; and, for those wanting to continue their studies, how to transition to university business programs.

The hands-on, real world curriculum components include creating a business plan, accounting techniques, and how to source financing. Guest speakers – all successful entrepreneurs – will share their experiences and expertise.

“Small business is the engine of economic growth,” says Dr. Dash.  “More and more people want to be their own boss, and we can help them achieve that goal.”

The certificate program consists of four courses that can be completed in just two semesters.  Classes are open to all students, whether pursuing the certificate or just wanting to hone their business skills.  Get a jump on fall by taking EPS 160|New Venture Creation this summer, from June 29-July 30.

For more information, contact Dr. Dash at 602-787-6964 | kishore.dash@paradisevalley.edu.

Finally, did you know ….  that PVCC’s Black Mountain campus, located at Carefree Highway and 60th Street,  offers an array of college transfer classes?  Or that they host amazing star parties under the clearest skies in the region?  Or that construction is underway for Aquila Hall?  The project will add approximately 20,000 square feet of classroom and lab space to house Science division courses, making Black Mountain a truly comprehensive campus. A traditional topping ceremony, celebrating the placement of the last beam, will take place Friday, May 1, at 9 am.

It’s no surprise that PVCC is nationally recognized as an innovative community college that consistently meets the changing needs of business and our community.  Soon to come – news about the college’s cutting edge entry into the field of Healthcare Information Technology, one of the fastest growing and high demand careers today.  Stay tuned!

And remember – PVCC is your community college | paradisevalley.edu.
