Desert Ridge resident and artist Judy Carr will be one of over 165 artists featured in the Sonoran Arts Leagues’ 17th Annual Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour and Sale held November 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and December 1, and taking place throughout Cave Creek, Carefree, and North Scottsdale. The self-guided tour allows art enthusiasts to meet the artists, learn about their artistic process, and purchase original artwork.

Carr, a part-time resident of Desert Ridge since 2009, will showcase her cast sterling jewelry, functional fused glass pieces and mixed media sculptures combining leather, cast metals and cast glass, at the Desert Jewel Studio, 26839 N. 44th Street, Cave Creek, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, along with the artwork of fellow artists Patricia Shepherd and Jennifer Hanscom. This is Carr’s second year participating in the event.

“Hidden in the Hills provides an excellent opportunity for new and established artists to show their work in a venue which has been well attended and supported by the public,” states Carr. “On-going demonstrations of the artist’s process gives the public an appreciation for the talent and labor that goes into a completed piece.”

Carr began her artistic journey four years ago after retiring from 35 years of work as an occupational therapist in a New York burn center. A love of one of a kind, handcrafted jewelry led her to her first art class in lost wax casting, and a fascination with fused glass helped her evolve into her most recent work that combines cast glass and metal. Carr and her husband bought a home in the Bella Monte neighborhood in 2007, and started spending winters there in 2009.

The 17th Annual Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour is presented by the Sonoran Arts League and sponsored by National Bank of Arizona. Forty-six artist studios featuring over 165 artists working in various mediums will be open to the public for free.
