Adopt-A-Gingerbread Man Program

The Boy & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale’s Vestar Branch is gearing up to launch an award winning program which helps ensure every family’s holiday season is bright. And this year, the Club is looking for community support.

The program, Adopt-A-Gingerbread Man, provides holiday gifts to over 130 less fortunate individuals in the community.  This program is made possible by the hard work and dedication of a very driven group of teenage members called the Keystone Club, a leadership group for teens ages 14 to 18 which focuses on academic success, career exploration, and community service.

The Adopt-A-Gingerbread Man program begins with identifying families in the community who are in need during the holiday season. Keystone members then design custom cardboard gingerbread man cut outs with the needed information about the families and place them on holiday trees.

“This annual program certainly takes time and effort, but community service has been an eye opening experience for the Keystone Club members,” says Jacob,  a sophomore at Pinnacle High School and member at the Vestar Branch.  “This view is shared by many of fellow Keystone members and we are proud to be part of such an impactful program. We are also grateful for those that are in the position to help, to support our program this holiday season.”

Some common items donated by Keystone members for the families include action figures, dolls and much needed clothing. Members also make sure families receive needed household items such as hygiene products, cleansers and even non-perishable food.

This is the fourth year the Keystone Club has run Adopt-A-Gingerbread Man and last year the program won the Keystone Pacific Regional Community Service Award. The program was selected over 200 different Keystone Clubs throughout nine different states regionally.

Make it a Special Holiday Season

“To say the Vestar Branch is proud of its holiday tradition is quite an understatement,” says Jacob. “The Keystone Club is more excited than ever to reach out to the community this year and make it a special holiday season for those that need it most.”

If you are interested in helping the Keystone members by selecting a family, please visit the holiday trees located at either the Vestar Branch (3975 E. Lockwood Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85050) or the Aviano Clubhouse at Desert Ridge (22500 N. Aviano Way, Phoenix, AZ 85050). For further questions please contact the Vestar Branch at 480-585-0170.

Special thanks to Aviano for being a supportive partner of the
