Barbara Newman, M.Ed., Principal
Explorer Middle School
As the new principal of Explorer Middle School, Barbara Newman brings a wealth of educational experiences, insights, and a commitment to student learning. Ms. Newman’s experiences include serving as the principal of a K-8 school, a middle school assistant principal, a 7-12 district mentor, intervention specialist, and dean of students. She was a highly successful teacher in the areas of English and Gifted Education and has been honored and recognized for her many contributions in the classroom. Middle school students are by far Ms. Newman’s favorite age group because of their energy and enthusiasm for learning. A priority of Barbara’s is to ensure that students are immersed in rigorous and relevant learning experiences within a safe environment that allows for goal-setting and collaboration. Through this practice, students will develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills that will help them to be productive citizens and lifelong learners.
