THE VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES COMES TO ISM RACEWAY IN PHOENIX

If you love the Verizon Indy Car Series, this year’s series was certainly not one to be missed. The second leg of the Verizon IndyCar Series made its second stop at the ISM Raceway with the debut on the oval with the new Aero Kit on Friday April 6 and the race on Saturday, April 7, 2018. This was the 64th Indy car race at the track, dating back to 1964. The icons and legends of the sport like Unser, Foyt, Andretti, Rutherford, Johncock and Mears have taken the checkered flag at the 1.022–mile short oval.

ISM Raceway was also commemorating the 25th anniversary of Mario Andretti’s 1993 Phoenix win, his final of his 52 Indy car victories, with a plethora of events honoring the iconic driver throughout the weekend. The Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix features many new stars as well as the big names like Scott Dixon, Josef Newgarden and Graham Rahal and the grandson of Mario Andretti, Marco Andretti who had an impressive top ten finish in Saint Petersburg. It was a grand weekend to catch IndyCar’s brightest stars under the lights for 250 miles.

After an exciting 2018 debut for the series, the Firestone Grand Prix in Saint Petersburg, Florida was won by Sebastien Bourdais for his second straight victory at the iconic track. Bourdais was able to pass after one of the promising rookies, Robert Wickens, suffered a crash on the second to last lap from Alexander Rossi, who finished third while Wickens, the pole sitter had to settle for the 18th position. This event lived up to its promises of being one of the great exciting action events for the series.
