SCOTTSDALE, AZ (February 2, 2016) — The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa has created unique options for a whole summer of fun with one-of-kind kids’ camps including the new Camp Kierland.
At the Resort’s popular Digital Kids Camp, kids ages 8 to 13 use the latest technology to make their very own movies, stop-motion animation films and produce their very own morning news program. Digital Kids Camp activities include:
- Stop Motion Animation: Kids bring their own objects and make them magically come to life in their very own video. While moving objects in small increments between photographed frames, they create the illusion of movement when the series of frames are played.
- Lights, Camera, Action: Each child will have the opportunity to play the role of actor, producer and director of their very own movie.
- Produce Your Own Morning News Show: At the Kierland News Network, kids provide round-the-clock news reporting and can produce their very own morning show with everything from ‘On the Spot’ reporting to weather, they can be a news anchor or journalist on location reporting vacation news around the Resort.
- Media Madness: Split into daily mini-projects, kids explore their creativity in all sorts of ways from making music videos, to movie trailers to comic book creations.
The five-day Digital Kids Camp is priced at $400 per child for a full day including lunch (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) or $250 per child for the morning camp (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.), which also includes lunch. The afternoon camp (1 – 4 p.m.) is priced at $200 per child.
Surf Camp
Kids who participate in the Resort’s exclusive Surf Camp enjoy hours of outdoor fun by learning to bodyboard and flowboard on the Kierland FlowRider wave simulator as well as related activities including surf-themed crafts and games. Open to kids ages 8 to 13 and who are at least 52 inches tall, Surf Camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays and features a variety of activities. Here’s a sample schedule:
8:30 – 9 am Intro/Warm-up/Stretch
9 – 10 am Bodyboard Ride Time
10 – 11 am Lazy River & Pool time
11 – 11:30 am Lunch
11:30 am – 12:30 pm Surf Craft & Movie
12:30 – 1 pm Fun & Games
1 – 2 pm Flowga (Flowboard Yoga)
2 – 3 pm Flowboard Ride Time
3 – 3:30 pm Cool Down & Closing Talks
After a week of learning all the tips and tricks to bodyboard and flowboard on the Kierland FlowRider, the camp concludes with a special surf show for parents to watch the junior surfers perform. Plus, each surfer is provided with a custom Kierland FlowRider towel and water bottle to take home.
Surf Camp is $500 per week per child and includes lunch daily.
New this year is Camp Kierland, which is designed for children ages 4 to 9. At Camp Kierland, kids spend their day with the Resort’s FUN Team, exploring the lush grounds of the resort and participating in unique crafts and activities that have made The Westin Kierland Resort one of the area’s most favorite family-friendly destinations. Each day, the camp will feature one of the Resort’s special events including the popular Kids in the Kitchen program, where campers don chef coats and make chocolate chip cookies in the professional pastry kitchen. Other special events include pottery painting, LEGOmania and a teddy bear picnic.
Camp Kierland is priced at $450 per child per week for a full day including lunch (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) or $300 per child for the morning camp (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.), which also includes lunch and the daily special event. The afternoon Camp Kierland (1 – 4 p.m.) is $200 per week per child.
The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa will offer the five-day camps starting May 31 through the week of Aug. 5. (The first week starts Tuesday, May 31 with a special pro-rated, four-day camp.) Each camp can accommodate up to 10 children, all camps include swimming time at the pool and each camp is facilitated by the Resort’s own FUN team.
