My name is Pat Brash, and I am very happy to serve as the new chairperson for the Desert Ridge Lifestyles (DRL) Committee. I would like to thank Stephanie Rimmer for her time and service as past chair of the committee. Her hard work and leadership have helped to shape the future of this committee.
The Lifestyles Committee here at Desert Ridge has had great success with growing our community events and activities. This season’s final Farmers Market at Cashman Park concluded with our very first Easter Egg Scramble, drawing a huge crowd as children and parents enjoyed a beautiful morning finding those eggs. Special thanks to Desert City Church for their partnership in helping us make the Easter Egg Scramble an enormously popular and successful event.
We are ecstatic to announce that the upcoming season’s Farmers Market will be moving back to High Street this fall – stay tuned for further details.
Our Spring Movie in the Park program featuring the Minions was also a great success as families enjoyed our beautiful spring weather with a fun outdoor activity. Please mark your calendar for the DRL Fall Movie in the Park in partnership with the Desert City Church Trunk or Treat event, which will be October 28, 2017. This event was our largest signature event last year with over 1,200 in attendance.
The twice annual community wide yard sale has just completed another successful spring yard sale involving our neighbors throughout the community. The Desert Ridge Community Association also collected 5,360 pounds of donations, resulting in a check for $107.20 to each of the five schools in the community! Thanks to the community donations, Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona was also able to fight unemployment in Arizona by supporting no-cost career centers for job placement with local employers. The next Desert Ridge Community Wide Yard Sale will be announced later this fall, allowing yet another opportunity for our homeowners to clear their garages and storage areas.
The Lifestyles Committee has met with City of Phoenix Parks officials as we continue to develop plans for the first Independence Day Firework Spectacular on Saturday, July 1st at Reach 11. This promises to be an exciting event for the entire community.
We experienced a great success this year with record number of attendees at both the Ladies Night Out and Community Night Out events. Feedback received regarding these social events have been very positive. In the spirit of trying something more fiscally responsible we’ve decided that the Community Night Out socials will be discontinued and transitioned to a quarterly “Sports Night” themed event commencing this fall.
As always we encourage the input and feedback of all our residents. Please feel free to attend our committee meetings, socials, events, and activities or visit us at desertridgelifestyles.com for the latest updates and happenings in the community.
