Have you ever thought about holiday celebrations and traditions? We know about U.S. traditions, but do you know about Mexico’s and France’s holiday traditions?
In Mexico, Christmas is celebrated from December 12th through January 6th. From December 16th to Christmas Eve, children perform ‘Posadas’. Posadas celebrate the Christmas story of Joseph and Mary trying to find a place to stay. In Posadas, the outside of houses is decorated with evergreens, moss, and paper lanterns. There are nine ‘Posadas’ from December 16th till Christmas Eve.
The celebration of Christmas in France depends on region. Some provinces of France celebrate Christmas on December 25th. Although, in eastern and northern France Christmas begins on December 6th. One tradition is that French put their shoes in front of the fireplace, in hopes that Papa Noel (Santa Claus) will fill them with gifts. On the Christmas tree candy, fruit, nuts, and small toys are hung overnight.
Not many people know about the traditions in other countries for Christmas, but now you are one of the some that do. Although Mexico and France are two of the many countries in the world, you learned more about what goes on around the world while you are at home doing your own celebrations.
