(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) — The Harmon Killebrew Foundation and Tour Masters Golf announced today that the annual Harmon Killebrew Invitational will be held at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club on the Fort McDowell Indian Community near Scottsdale, Ariz. from Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 2012. Funds raised from the annual golf tournament will benefit Miracle League of Arizona so that children with cognitive or physical abilities can enjoy a safe and enjoyable baseball playing experience.
Harmon Killebrew and his wife, Nita, formed the Harmon Killebrew Foundation in 1998 to raise funds to benefit their favorite charities. The Foundation has remained active after Killebrew’s death in 2011 to carry on his philanthropic legacy following an illustrious Hall of Fame career with the Minnesota Twins.
The three-day event will launch with the Harmon Killebrew Invitational Poker Tournament at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Fort McDowell Casino. An exclusive Celebrity VIP Reception will be held the following night on Dec. 1 from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Radisson Fort McDowell Resort and includes a cocktail party, VIP sit down dinner with celebrities from the sports world as well as entertainers sitting at each table, irresistible silent and live auction items and live entertainment that includes a speed painter and a comedy show from the writers of “Saturday Night Live.” The Harmon Killebrew Invitational will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start on Dec. 2 at the We-Ko-Pa Golf Club. Foursomes in the golf tournament include a celebrity team captain and participant gifts. We-Ko-Pa’s Cholla Course was rated as the third-best daily-fee golf course in Arizona by the experts at Golfweek magazine in their “2012 Best Courses: State-by-State Rankings” for the second year in a row.
“It is a great time every year when numerous former and current sports stars and entertainers attend our golf invitational to raise money for the Harmon Killebrew Foundation,” Nita Killebrew said. “Harmon would be proud of everybody getting together so that we can raise money for a new Miracle League field and allow special needs children to enjoy the game of baseball.”
More than 30 former and current sports stars and entertainers are scheduled to be on hand for all three days of the Harmon Killebrew Invitational. Scheduled to attend are Hall of Famers Rod Carew, Paul Molitor, Ozzie Smith and Robin Yount; former Twins’ players Kent Hrbek, Jack Morris, Tim Laudner and Scott Erickson; and former Minnesota Vikings’ All-Pro Chris Doleman, among others. Funds raised from all of the events will go to the Harmon Killebrew Foundation to assist in the construction of an adaptive Miracle League baseball field at the Victory Lane Sports Park near 43rd Ave. and Pinnacle Peak Rd. in Glendale, Ariz.
MVP Sponsorship fees for the Harmon Killebrew Invitational start as low as $2,500 and include a foursome of golf, tickets to the Celebrity VIP Reception and much more.
