Summertime Skin Care and Waxing Tips

Summer in the desert can be hard on your skin, but it does not have to be. Here are a few tips for keeping your skin hydrated and happy all summer long.

WAXING
No matter if you are poolside or seaside, waxing will keep your skin sleek and smooth during the summer swimwear season. The good news about waxing is there is no razor burn or rash. These can often last a couple of days after shaving. Plus, waxing results are longer lasting. Make sure to exfoliate well the areas to be waxed in the days prior to your appointment. This helps to remove dead skin and leaves the hair loose and well prepped for waxing.

It is most important to use a wax that is formulated for your skin type. That is why I have my wax bar. I have a wax for almost every skin type and need. Not all waxes work for all people. So, if a wax has caused you skin irritation in the past, make sure to let me know so that we can find the right wax for your skin type.

SUNSCREEN
Choosing the right sunscreen is also very important. Not many people know this, but the FDA recently cracked down on the sunscreen industry. Many of the ingredients in sunscreens on the shelf today were grandfathered in during the 1970s. They did so without the FDA reviewing the evidence of potential hazards and risks. They determined in recent studies that only two ingredients have enough safety data for them to be considered safe and effective for use. You will begin seeing changes in sunscreen products over the next few years. You may also notice that they are selling a product with BOGO pricing at retailers, as they try to get rid of a product on hand.

TIZO brand sunscreen uses only minerals, combined with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, the two ingredients that have been deemed safe by the FDA through testing. They are also free of all chemical sunscreens, oils, preservatives, and parabens.

FACIALS
Hydrating Facials are key to keeping your skin refreshed and hydrated. The dry desert heat and intense sun can cause premature aging of your skin. A good hydrating facial will aid in the prevention of these effects. Many of the products I use are sourced right here in Arizona. Skin Scripts is made in Tempe, AZ. I also carry a wide array of products for you to maintain and prolong the hydrating effects of your facial, to care for your skin between visits. Some of these products include Comfort Zone from Italy and Kneipp from Austria
