Desert Ridge Monument Sign

From the Communications Chair

Rob-ReichsteinIt’s Summertime in Phoenix

Schools out, snowbirds have packed up and left, tourists are flocking to more temperate destinations. By that statement you would think Phoenix is some kind of seasonal tourist trap where the locals batten down the hatches, roll up the streets, and wait for the next season.
Not so fast.

Truth be told, I like summer in Phoenix. Ok, yes it gets hot, so I go out and run errands before 10:00 am or wait until the sun goes down. But you know what I like about it? The crowds are gone and traffic eases.

Summer is the time I can get into some of my favorite restaurants on High Street without facing long waits. And if I’m in the mood for a good laugh I check out the local talent on stage at the comedy club. Never been disappointed. I can also go to movies at the Desert Ridge theater on virtually a moment’s notice and I don’t have to sit in the front row! That’s just the start.

The MIM is a great place to walk around no matter what the temperature is, and if you like music and have not been to one of their concerts then make it a point to go. You can also treat yourself to a staycation at the Marriott. Play golf, enjoy their activities, pool, and restaurants. It’s a lot easier on the wallet when you don’t have to pay airfare. And, if you forget something at home, it’s no big deal.

Beyond our Desert Ridge borders there are plenty of activities in which to partake. The Arizona Diamondbacks look pretty good this year and you never have to worry about being uncomfortable sitting in Chase Field. Don’t forget about our Phoenix Mercury WNBA team, they can ball. A short ride on the 101 puts you at the OdySea Aquarium, TopGolf, Butterfly Wonderland and iFLY (indoor skydiving).

The list of activities goes on…but, instead of trying to cover everything like a travel guide I am just going to steer you to the DesertRidgeLifestyles.com website. There you’ll also be able to find info about what’s happening within Desert Ridge and surrounding areas.

I just have one favor to ask. Please don’t tell outsiders about all the things to do. Let’s make this our little secret. Because if word gets out that Desert Ridge/Phoenix is a cool place to spend summer then those snowbirds may not leave and the tourists will put us on their summer destination list. That could spoil everything!
Have a great summer. Be safe, drink a lot of fluids, and stay in touch.
